Upgrading Auto Incrementing Value
Files from Version 2.0 or Earlier
Starting with LabelVision version 2.1, Auto Incrementing Value files
(ending in the extension .LID) use a format thats incompatible
with Version 2.0 or earlier. If you upgrade LabelVision and you
used Auto Incrementing fields on any of your labels, you must follow
this procedure to fix the .LID files.
You will notice the problem when you try to print an
old label that uses Auto Incrementing fields with a later version. You will receive
the following message:
Error reading Auto-Incr
Data file '.\< LABNAME>.LID':
Invalid data
To correct the problem, follow this procedure
for each label that has auto incrementing fields. In the following
instructions, the name of the label file is assumed to be LABNAME.
Substitute your label file name for LABNAME.
- Decide if you need the old auto incrementing
fields values. If all the auto incrementing fields on your label
are "Reset value every time the label is printed", or
if you do not mind that your labels auto incrementing field
values will reset to the value specified in the "Start at"
box, Skip to step 8. Note: to see the above options edit the auto
incrementing field using the LabelVision Designer.
- You must figure out the next value for each
auto incrementing field on the label that is set to "Save
value from one print to the next". If you already know the
next value, skip to step 7.
- Start a DOS prompt, and change to the directory
containing your label file.
- Enter the command "TYPE LABNAME.LID"
at the DOS prompt and press Enter (substitute your label name
for LABNAME).
- You will see a screen similar to the following
- Look at the beginning of the second line (which
may be shifted to the right and may contain somewhat different
characters than the ones on the line above). The next value of
the sequence number will appear at the beginning. In this example,
the next value is 00007. Additional field values will be listed
after the first one. Write down the next value for each field.
- Using the LabelVision Designer, open the label,
and select the Define Input Fields command from the Fields menu.
Click on an auto incrementing field, and press Modify. Type the
next value for that field into the "Start At" box.
- Start (or return to) the DOS prompt, and change
to the directory containing your label file.
- Type the following command to rename the .LID
file: "REN LABNAME.LID LABNAME.OLI" (replace LABNAME
with your label name). Note that we are renaming the LID file
for safety, to allow you to review it in case you did not get
the next value to print correctly. After the label prints correctly,
you no longer need the OLI file and can delete it.
- The label should now print correctly.
